Welcome to FinAssist ("we", "our", or "us"). We operate as an offline-first personal finance tracker. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information.
This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application. By using FinAssist, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.
2. Data We Collect
Unlike traditional financial apps, FinAssist is designed with a privacy-first, decentralized architecture.
We do not maintain external servers to collect your personal financial records. All incomes, expenses, loans, budgets, and category modifications you enter are stored locally on your device using encrypted sandbox storage.
The only instances where information is handled outside your local device are:
- Google Drive Synced Backups: If you explicitly enable the cloud backup feature, your database is uploaded directly to your personal Google Drive account. We do not have access to your credentials or backup data.
- AdMob Advertising Identifiers: We utilize third-party Google AdMob advertising SDKs which automatically capture unique device and advertising IDs (such as Google ADID) to serve relevant banner ads.
3. Google & Drive Permissions
FinAssist integrates Google Sign-In and the Google Drive API to allow user-initiated data backup and restore capabilities.
We request the narrow scope of https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file. This scope restricts our app's access to only the specific files created or uploaded by FinAssist itself (named FinAssist_Backup.json).
- FinAssist cannot read, write, modify, or view any other files, folders, photos, or documents in your Google Drive storage.
- Your authentication token and user profile elements (such as display name and avatar) are utilized solely to initiate API operations directly from your phone to Google. They are never sent to us or any third parties.
4. Advertising & AdMob
To support the ongoing development of this application, FinAssist displays third-party advertisements served by Google AdMob.
Google AdMob collects and uses certain data from your device to personalize ads and analyze performance. This data may include:
- Your device's Advertising ID (e.g., Google ADID, Apple IDFA).
- Device metadata (e.g., manufacturer, model, operating system version, screen size, IP address).
- Ad interaction stats (e.g., clicks, impressions, views).
You can manage or opt-out of personalized advertising through your device's Android System Settings under Settings ➔ Google ➔ Ads ➔ Opt out of Ads Personalization.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Because your financial data is stored locally on your device, you remain in complete control of your data retention:
- Uninstalling the App: Deleting FinAssist from your device automatically purges all locally stored transactions, budgets, EMIs, and local settings immediately.
- Deleting Backups: To erase cloud backups, you can sign in to your Google Drive account and delete the file named
FinAssist_Backup.jsondirectly from your Drive, or click the disconnect button inside the app settings.
6. Data Security
The security of your financial data is our top priority. We rely on the native security sandboxing features of the Android operating system to restrict other apps from accessing your FinAssist database.
When uploading backups to Google Drive, all communications are encrypted in transit using industry-standard TLS/SSL encryption protocols directly between your mobile device and Google's official API endpoints.
7. Children's Privacy
Our application does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we immediately delete this from our records.
